SSE has recently embarked on a 5 year+ £1Bn IT transformation programme spanning all areas of the business to support its continuing strategy. Effectively harnessing Data and Analytics will become an essential strategic capability enabling SSE to continue to operate and compete effectively in its markets and business segments and with this growth in mind we are looking to recruit a People and Skills Manager to join our IT teams based in Hampshire.
This is a diverse role and you will be responsible for developing the Project and Programme Delivery capability for Group IT to a level of excellence, through the introduction of a capability improvement programme and the design and implementation of an appropriate L&D programme. A key part of the role will be to define and maintain the development strategy for organisational learning in recognised Programme & Project Management and PMO skills. You will also support line managers with employee performance management, and provide direction, support, guidance, motivation, and management of capability levels across the Project Delivery teams, including Graduate and Degree Apprentice placements.
You will lead the analysis of training and development needs, developing standard learning plans for roles, identifying available courses, and establishing links with SSE L&D and external providers. You will also implement a capability improvement plan that addresses any capability gaps and supports continuous improvement of our programme & project management capability, taking an active role in training and development through training logistics support. In support of the IT Leadership team, you will identify candidates for performance coaching and succession planning. You will, therefore, be able to demonstrate sound experience in designing and delivering blended learning programmes in PM disciplines with the ultimate aim of improving our PM capability, as well as other IT disciplines
We are looking for a candidate who has formal Programme & Project Management qualifications such as MSP, Prince 2 Practitioner, APM or PMI or equivalent along with extensive experience working in a leadership role in Learning and Development. We are looking for an individual who is a skilled people manager, most likely at 2nd or 3rd level and has solid experience in motivating, developing and mentoring teams from trainee to senior professional level- experienced gained in the energy industry would be an advantage.
Knowledge of SSE’s Transformational Change Governance Framework or an equivalent stage gate-based project governance process is essential. As is experience of dealing with SSE or external equivalent capability groups including Procurement and Commercial, Business Relationship Management, Architecture, Solution Delivery, Infrastructure, Service Delivery, Facilities Management and Service Management.
As the ideal candidate you will have significant proven experience both in driving capability improvement levels in a large organisation, through effective performance management, and in people management and coaching /mentoring of staff.
