Salary: £18,810 - £21,955 depending on skills and experience
Permanent – Full Time Hours (37 hr week)

Our electricity distribution and transmission networks carry electricity to over 3.7 million homes and businesses across the north of Scotland and Central Southern England. Our skilled teams are based right across the regions we serve, from the bustle of West London to the smallest villages in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.
SSE Power Distribution is part of the SSE group which owns and operates two electricity distribution networks and one transmission network, comprising of some 123,000 substations and 127,000 kilometres of underground cables and overhead lines and delivers power to 30% of the UK's landmass, serving 3.5 Million customers. The team being part of OPG carries out statutory line surveying of the overhead network to ensure Environmental Safety Quality and Continuity Regulations (ESQC Regulations) compliance. We are recruiting for an Overhead Line Inspector to join our Oxford or Andover depot.
As Overhead Line Inspector you will be responsible for surveying the overhead lines and recording the information gathered on a hand held GPS device. Your role is vital in ensuring the overhead network is surveyed in keeping with the planned target and as per ESQC regulations. The information you collate will be used to ensure SSE comply with Health and Safety Regulations and you will be responsible for ensuring this is documented accurately in accordance with the required standards, methods and procedures.
To be considered you will have experience working in a similar role and have a demonstrable knowledge of map reading, an understanding of the ESQC Regulations is preferred but not essential. You will have a high regard for safety and embed yourself in our safety culture, you will be able to risk assess activities throughout your working day and adhere to our safety guidelines at all times.
Although based in your local area, you may be required to work out-with your normal working hours in an alternative location depending on business demands therefore a flexible approach to working and a full driving license is essential.
You’ll be a great team worker and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with a keen eye for detail. Having excellent organisational skills, with the ability to work accurately and independently is essential. You will be required to work outdoors in all conditions therefore an enjoyment of working in the field and a basic level of fitness is required.
