Our Role

In this Technical Team Leader role, you will work as part of a small agile team to design and implement new features and technologies and deliver high quality, high performance code in an agile environment.  A key part of the role will be the design and development of complex solutions with a focus on quality, performance, and resiliency. As well a providing technical direction and oversight for development projects, you will provide leadership to cross-functional teams. 

This is a hand-off role, however, you will need to draw on your strong technical background to support you in providing effective leadership of this Development team.

This role forms park of the SSE IT Business Energy team. SSE Business Energy supplies over 500,000 customer accounts, across a broad and diverse client base, from micro businesses to large national corporates. They provide a unique service to each business with a commitment to keeping our clients’ interests at heart and helping to control energy costs.

Your Skills and Experience

You will be able to demonstrate significant experience and proficiency in C# programming, plus one or more modern programming languages, as well as experience in client/server development using .net framework and Oracle. Your experience in development of distributed/scalable systems and high-volume transaction applications is essential. As well as your extensive technical ability, you will be highly-motivated with the talent to lead and motivate others, driving tasks to completion whilst handling multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.   

Your personal skills will include a systematic, disciplined and analytical approach to problem solving as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork and knowledge sharing. You will be a decision maker with the ability to give clear technical direction.

Your own excellent personal effectiveness will enable you to delegate workloads appropriately, manage your own workload and that of more junior staff where necessary, as well as prioritise the work of the team in a rapidly changing environment. You will demonstrate an ability and willingness to mentor and coach staff in aspects of business, management and technology and to motivate your team to strive for continual improvements in quality and performance.
