Location: Slough depot (West London)

Salary: £34,123 - £56,671 (SS07 - SS09) depending on authorisations and experience + car

Operations are responsible for keeping the lights on; we are at the front line on the Network. If we find a fault, it is our responsibility to respond to the fault, and dispatch our skilled teams to fix it as quickly as possible. We work in all hours, and through all weathers, ensuring our customers are never without power.

As a Field Unit Engineer you will join a team of highly skilled colleagues to help deliver our capital delivery programme on our distribution network. This is a pivotal role within the business, ensuring we build and maintain the highest standard of network for our customers.

You can expect to get involved in all aspects of operational field work including; commissioning, maintenance, outage management, contractor liaison, project design and planning plus budget adherence. Due to the 24/7 nature of our networks, you may be required to work away from your base location on occasion, and assist in a variety of ad hoc activities.

With a qualification in a relevant technical subject to a minimum of HNC level, you should have previous experience and technical knowledge of power systems including installation and commissioning of high voltage plant and apparatus. It’s essential for the role that you hold or be working towards High Voltage Switching or Senior Authorised Person authorisations; this position is available from an SS07 (£34,123 - £45,066) up to an SS09 (£42,908 - £56,671) depending on the level of authorisation held.

You should show an understanding of reading and interpreting protection single line, schematic and block diagrams and be experienced in carrying out testing and fault-finding. A full driving licence is also essential for the role.

With a high regard for safety, you should demonstrate outstanding customer relationship skills and a commitment to providing a high level service at all times. You’ll possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable liaising with stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external. You should show enthusiasm and drive with a flexible approach to work and an ability to adapt to changing business and project priorities.
