Job Title: Business Assurance Analyst
Salary: SSE 5 £27,947 – £36,912 depending on skills and experience
Permanent | Full Time Hours with flexible working patterns available
The Business Assurance Analyst will be working within the Retail Commercial Team which consists of 4 different areas:-
- Customer Planning which creates a credible plan to meet the strategic goals of the Retail business;
- Pricing which looks after pricing strategies within tariff decisions;
- Energy Costs which covers purchase of energy for the domestic Retail business;
- Commercial Contracting which manage 3rd party contracts for energy supply service providers.
As a Business Assurance Analyst you will report to the Business Service Manager, and be responsible for assisting in delivering an effective assurance framework across all Commercial business areas, helping the business in understanding relevant obligations, and guiding the business on how to manage risks via an effective control environment.
Further responsibilities will include assisting in creating an assurance plan to actively check the areas of high risk by conducting process quality and assurance audits and reviews across Commercial and then delivering reports to the Business service manager. In terms of reports you will be responsible for managing and compiling the monthly assurance report and business KPI reporting to agreed standards and you will assist in providing management information to the leadership team. You will also compile the Retail Assurance weekly report as part of this role.
You will work on risk registration to develop appropriate risk mitigation strategies and in doing so you will coordinate the Commercial Risk Registers, working with individual areas to ensure they manage their own areas’ risk register in line with the Retail Assurance Framework. Risk mitigation strategy will also include ensuring the business have appropriate Business Continuity plans in place and tested on a regular basis.
You will maintain an efficient and effective document management and review process whilst supporting the development of documentation also. Additionally, there’s currently a focus on integration and engagement and therefore you will support the Business Service Manager to improve this across the Commercial team through various methods such as surveys, Great Place to Work, Team Meetings and Team Days.
Your Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate for this role will have an understanding of relevant legal and regulatory obligations and of business process, risks, controls and governance frameworks. It would also be beneficial if you have knowledge of business risk areas and business processes being assured for Commercial along with experience of conducting audits, although this is not essential.
Additionally you must have excellent analytical skills along with being comfortable communicating at all levels across a diverse team in both verbal and in written form. You’ll be a person capable of influencing others with the confidence to challenge people when needed. You should be competent with MS packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint and you’ll be able to utilise these to produce clear and concise reports.
Furthermore, you should have a good understanding of business Governance and the three lines of defence. Previous Experience of operating in an auditing environment would be beneficial but is not essential. Overall you should be able to ‘see the bigger picture’ and in doing so go on to be creative and innovative, looking for Business improvement opportunities.
