The Role

As Metering Manager, you will be operating in a newly-formed metering team.  You’ll have oversight of one departments that maintain Business Energy back-office metering functions and manage relationships with key service providers.  As part of the back-office team, the Metering Manager will report into the Head of Technical Services and will have 5 direct reports across metering operations.

With your commercial, contractual and operational experience and expertise, you should be able to lead, motivate and performance manage direct reports.  You’ll support teams in effectively and efficiently setting-up, reviewing and maintaining contract records and documentation; effectively communicating with service providers.  You’ll influence business development, new partnership and other promotional activities; meeting performance, regulatory and health and safety standards and reporting performance statistics to Senior Leadership team.

As Metering Manager, you will be accountable for the transformation of the business ensuring teams are coached through periods of change.  Providing operational leadership and excellence of the business you’ll be accountable for acting on and representing decisions made by Senior Leadership. You will be accountable for developing a culture of continuous improvement through collaborative working, ensuring that people, process and tools enable operational excellence.  You will demonstrate a strong level of financial control, managing controllable team costs and working with wider finance teams to forecast and manage financial risk.  As part of the SSE team you’ll ensure compliance with company policy, regulatory requirements and legislation and be accountable for managing teams to deliver compliant Health & Safety performance.

Your Skills & Experience

We’re looking for an experienced metering manager with a solid understanding of SMART, AMR and Heritage metering systems and business processes. You’ll have experience in development and management of commercial contracts for business energy customers and partners.  You’ll have an existing understanding of the drivers / dynamics of commercial and legal agreements; the ability to create commercial proposals at senior management level and negotiate product and pricing structures for customers and partners.

Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the business will be essential, as is the ability to manage upwards, delivering context and insight in a concise manner.
