Our Role
Networks Finance have a vacancy for an experienced, qualified Finance Manager to play a key role in the management and development of current and future finance processes associated with the Electricity Connections business undertaken by the Networks business.
As well as being involved in the existing connections process for the wider Networks connections business this is a key role within the Networks Project team that is managing the ongoing contract with the HS2 rail project in the South of England. Along with the M4 smart motorway project and a number of other projects that are in the development stage.
A dedicated project team has been established to deal with these projects and the Finance Manager will be a key member of the team and provide a high quality service to the SSE Project Director. The contracts are likely to be on an open book basis. It is expected the value of the contract will run to multiple millions.
In addition, this role will assist the Networks Finance Connections Business Partner in the development of future systems and processes required to effectively and efficiently operate Distribution Connections.
The Finance Manager will undertake the following duties:
• Monitor, control and report income and costs to the HS2/M4 Project Team, Distribution Business and HS2/M4 in a timely manner against each activity in the schedule of works, providing yearly, quarterly and monthly forecast, then correcting against actual costs.
• HS2 will provide cash against our forecasts (monthly advance) and provide us with an opportunity to run the project on a cash positive basis. HS2 will use our forecasting and planning as a measure of our competency throughout the project and therefore the ability to fully understand the project and accurately forecast is critical to the success of the project.
• Ensure that SSE’s cash position on this project is cash positive at all times
• Be responsible for calculating and applying the individual charge out rates for our team including o/head and profit targets that are acceptable to the business and the client. We need to provide HS2 with forecasts of our proposed labour use and cost. Therefore, there is a requirement to design, implement and manage a time recording system to be used for this project by the project team and other within Distribution who may be required to work on this project.
• Work with the project team to accurately assess financial risks that could impact the project and the Distribution business.
• There will be a requirement to work closely with HS2 and their associated contractors and operate and interrogate their financial systems. This role will be a key interface between SSE & HS2. Training will be provided by HS2 on their system requirements and databases.
• Manage any audit requirements associated with the Project as outlined in the contract. HS2 have the right of audit on all costs incurred on this project.
• There would be line management responsibility for the cost controller, plus 3 other connections team members.
• The role will also play an active role within the wider South Connections business area and support, advise and direct the business as and when required on Financial issues and project closure. 
• Have input to South RIGS reporting for Connections.
• Play a key role in the development of future connections systems as the Distribution Connections business revamps systems and processes.

 
Experience & Skills required
• Qualified Accountant with at least 3 years PQE
• Previous experience in a busy Finance team
• Commercial aware and astute individual
• Ability to work well in a Project Team environment and lead where required
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build key relationships.
• Ability to drive process improvement and leadership skills.
• Key understanding of Oracle EBS Financials.
