The Role

As Turbine Technician, you’ll report into the Operations Supervisor of the Wind Farm, operating in accordance with corporate standards, policies, procedures and best practice guidelines to ensure protection of the owner’s investment. A large part of this role will encompass working on Siemens 3.6MW turbines operating the 504MW Greater Gabbard wind farm.

The position will require working to varied seasonal shift pattern as stated by the site service contractor during March to September and a 4 days on / 4 day off shift pattern for SSE at all other times.

Some of your main accountabilities will include;

-Service and maintain a fleet of 140 Wind Turbine Generators (WTG’s) to maximise generation safely.

-Provide safety coordination and operational experience on the offshore WTG’s and associated wind farm assets.  

-Providing field support to the wider operations team, supporting all WTG maintenance campaigns.

-Own the investigation of operational issues from inception through to completion, following a robust reporting process.  

-Accountability for the review and refresh of all operations work instructions, procedures, safety documentation and reporting mechanisms, ensuring relevancy and accuracy at all times.

-Provide safety from the system under SSE Wind Turbine Safety rules and facilitating generator-based maintenance tasks.   

-Collate alarm action data, gathering as much information as possible to improve procedures and onward offshore activity carried out by Balance of Plant (BoP) and wind farm technicians, ensuring safe operations and the increase of first time fix rates which will contribute to fault analysis and rectification

 - Build and document a knowledge base of technical information to assist with daily decision making

 

Your Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone with operations-based experience coupled with an engineering background. You’ll have knowledge of operational wind farms and associated onshore and offshore infrastructure, as well as an understanding of control room functions and related outputs.

As an Authorised Technician, able to troubleshoot and lead teams, you’ll have a full understanding of offshore work requirements and SHE risks and be familiar with emergency response handling and contingency planning. A working knowledge of WTG, general wind farm systems, along with rotational plant and turbine technology such as Converter and LV systems will be required.

As a person, you’ll use your strong interpersonal skills to provide leadership on the safe approach to site works. The ability to prioritise your work load effectively will be essential, and you’ll have the aptitude to quickly identify and resolve issues in a timely manner.  The ability to write procedures and reports to consistently high standard will also be required.
