Salary: £39,418 – £52,055 depending on skills and experience

Permanent | Full or Part Time Hours with flexible working patterns available

The Role

Like all energy suppliers, SSE are busy installing new Smart Meters in customers’ homes and business across the UK. With steep government mandated targets to be reached, we are looking for a Channel Manager to work closely with our Marketing team to drive customer engagement activity and support SSE in its aim to deliver Smart meters to 100% of our domestic customers. In this role, you will be responsible for partnering with our Marketing team to lead the ongoing development of new and existing activities to deliver Smart Customer Demand.  This will encompass identifying opportunities and innovative approaches, as well as reviewing customer data and insight to create targeted activity. You will be responsible for working collaboratively with your Marketing colleagues to develop plans and forecasts, agreeing this with your stakeholders, and driving performance to meet the agreed targets.  Management of all the activity will be structured with appropriate governance including escalation, plans, and mitigation of risks, issues and dependencies.  

Smart meters are delivering a significant change to the way customers engage with and use energy.  For some the benefit of Smart is that it allows them to see exactly how much they’re using and spending, for others the convenience of no more meter reads or being able to top up at home, and for others knowing that they are contributing to a reduction in overall energy consumption to deliver a brighter future for us all.  You will be responsible for considering how to best engage all our customers, by understanding their differing needs and how Smart can help to meet them.  The resulting contact strategy will deliver the right proposition, via the right channel, at the right time, to the right customer.  You will work closely with the Propositions team to use the relevant insights to define and support delivery of targeted Smart propositions.  This will allow us not only to be successful in driving increased take up, but also to do this cost effectively, whilst delivering real value to our customers.  

Your Skills and Experience

Ideally you will join us from a Retail organisation where you have been responsible for mobilising and supporting execution of activity across multiple business areas to deliver against targets and plans.  You should have previous project management, and ideally channel management experience. Experience of CRM, Direct Marketing and Proposition Development is also a great advantage.  You’ll enjoy solving problems and identifying new opportunities.  You should be highly organised, with good numerical, excel and presentation skills. Ideally, you’ve been involved in some planning and forecasting previously. 

Most importantly you’ll have first class relationship skills, being able to engage and influence effectively across Marketing, the Smart programme and our wider Retail business.   You should have a good work ethic, be tenacious and resilient, and display strong commercial skills and customer focus, being able to ensure our activity is optimised in terms of cost effectiveness and customer experience.
