Our Role

Mayflower Smart Control are currently looking for a Product Development Engineer to join their Portsmouth-based team, on a full-time permanent basis. Mayflower Smart Control is a brand within SSE Enterprise Digital Services, specialising in the management of Smart street lighting and Smart City applications. Mayflower’s CMS (Central Management System) is installed on over 400,000 assets across the UK, Ireland and Australia with aims to increase international sales within the next 5 years.

You will be responsible for testing and reviewing electronics/embedded firmware; ensuring design files, test reports and relevant product information including technical construction file is kept up to date and stored in accordance with company procedures, design authority and manufacturers

As Product Development Engineer you will assist the Senior Product Development Engineer with successful running and administration of development projects while managing the integration of third-party sensors/Mayflower products and applications. 

You will oversee the manufacturing and returns process; capturing product return and failure data to analyse and work with teams to rectify the issue. 

Research into new technologies relevant to the projects and working with Test Houses to take the product through compliances e.g. EMC, Safety and Environmental is also a key part of the role.

Providing 2nd / 3rd line product support is also key.

Your Skills and Experience

As the Product Development Engineer, you will have a degree in Electronics Engineering or related discipline.  It is essential you have working experience of the product development lifecycle and an understanding of electronics product manufacturing and worked with electronics and mechanics design tools e.g. ALTIUM and SOLIDWORKS.

You will have working knowledge of analogue and digital design including microprocessors, microcontrollers, PCB design, schematics capture, simulation tools. Equally you will have tested Embedded devices (Electronics and firmware) and been involved in embedded firmware development.
