At SSE Distributed Energy we provide market-leading engineering solutions by working closely with our bid team to provide new solutions to customers which span the service-offerings of SSE Enterprise. 

We design, build, finance and manage energy and telecoms related assets for businesses and the public sector. Our business comprises Telecoms, Utilities, Rail and Contracting which gives us diversity in competitive markets and a broad client base.  From electric vehicle charging points, to telecoms networks, to housing development connections and mechanical contracting on rail sites; we’re involved in a broad spectrum of high-profile infrastructure projects across the country.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the SSE Enterprise team to support the delivery of electric vehicle charging infrastructure (EVCI) projects at a time when there is significant focus on increasing our portfolio within the EVCI sector. We are looking for a suitably qualified project manager to help deliver such projects. These projects allow the project manager to be involved in the full project lifecycle from design and build to operation and maintenance.

You’ll be accountable for managing assigned projects throughout all lifecycle stages within a robust governance framework, ensuring project management controls are applied, relevant, accurate and reporting is provided to the Project Sponsor. There will be a key focus on business goals and benefits and ensuring project objectives are achieved in line with agreed scope, budget, quality and time.

This role will allow you to join SSE at a time where the Programme and Project Management capability is going through a rapid and positive change and will allow you as a new team member to make your mark and share your knowledge, skills and experience with a developing team. This gives you the flexibility of a start-up, with the security of a large company backing using a proven structured implementation framework. 

Working in a matrix environment, you will be able to use your existing strengths and knowledge, as well as learn new skills and gain exposure to different technologies and business areas. 

You will use your experience to mentor and guide Junior Project Managers and other colleagues for success. You will have experience of managing High Voltage (HV) / Low Voltage (LV) network delivery projects from inception to implementation. In addition, you will have experience of contracts involving joint ventures, special purpose vehicles and private finance initiatives amongst others. You’ll be comfortable working at many levels across organisations with good communication skills.

Experience of Electric Vehicle (EV) and decentralised energy solutions would also be beneficial.

You will come from a high energy, high pressured environment where your motivation will inspire your team and allow you to demonstrate the ability to build virtual teams quickly. 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

We are looking for experienced, pragmatic, and customer focused Project Managers, with an engineering background. You will have knowledge and demonstrable experience of managing the full project lifecycle and can take responsibility for the end-to-end delivery of complex projects in a complex environment using best-practice methodologies, ensuring effective cost controls and resourcing to enable the delivery of projects to budget, quality and time. You will encourage innovation and can provide leadership and focus for the project teams, comprising of SSE and Third parties, potentially across multiple sites. 

Due to the level of mobility required in this role a full UK driving license is essential. This role will involve some UK overnight travel and may include the opportunity to be site based if required.

We are looking for a candidate who has a good working knowledge contracts such as NEC conditions of contract and formal qualifications such as PRINCE2 and APM. We use MS project at SSE and we strictly adhere to a gated project management approach. 

You’ll also have good communication skills and have previous experience in applying the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 to technically complex projects.

Finally, a degree in Engineering or equivalent is required for this position, while a professional qualification such as MICE, MIMechE or MIEE is desirable.
